Traditional Lapped Paling Fences
The most common style of timber fencing in Melbourne is the lapped paling fence. This design uses two different paling widths to maximise privacy while maintaining an attractive appearance.
The fence is constructed by installing 150×12 treated pine palings first with an approximate 50mm gap between each board. A 100×12 treated pine paling is then fixed over each gap, creating the traditional overlapping (lapped) design that provides excellent privacy and reduces visibility through the fence.
This method produces the classic timber paling fence seen on thousands of residential properties throughout Melbourne.
Unders and Overs Fencing
We also supply 125×12 treated pine palings, which are commonly used for unders and overs fencing.
In this style of fence, the palings are fixed alternately to each side of the fence rails using a consistent spacing. This creates an attractive fence that allows airflow while still providing privacy from most viewing angles.
Unders and overs fencing is a popular choice where a lighter, more decorative appearance is preferred.
